Popularly known as the Queen of Hills, Mussoorie is located at an elevation of 2003 m above the sea level. It is at a distance of 34 km from Dehradun in the Garhwal division of Uttaranchal.

Sight Seeing

Captain Young of the British Army was so influenced by the beauty of this place in 1820 AD that he decided to make it his residence. The town got its name from the plants of 'Mussoorie', which grown in abundance over here. A ropeway ride takes you to the second highest peak of Mussoorie, the Gun Hill. you can get the views of all the important peaks of the Himalayas, namely Bunderpunch, Srikantha, Pithwara and Gangotri. The Municipal Garden is a garden with an artificial lake and boating facilities. Jharipani Fall is a waterfall from the height of 1.5 km and is 8.5 km from Mussoorie. Bhatta Falls is 7 km from Mussoorie has facilities for bathing and picnic. Kempty Fall is the popular for being the biggest and most beautiful fall of the region. There are arrangements for bathing and picnic at the fall. Dhanolti is a small hamlet 25 km from Mussoorie. It offers picturesque view of the mountains and the deodars. The temple of Surkanda Devi is 35 km from Mussoorie. According to Hindu mythology, the head of Sati, Shiva's consort, fell over this place.

The nearest airport to Mussoorie is the Jolly Grant Airport at Dehradun.

By Rail: the nearest railway station is at Dehradun, which is 60 km away.

By Road: Mussoorie is well connected by surface network with cities and towns like Dehradun, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Lansdowne and Delhi.
